The National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH), which funds basic research, two of our institute's proposals were awarded new research grants. Adrienn Sipos from the laboratory headed by Prof. Péter Bay was awarded research funding in the Young Investigator (YI) programme, while Prof. László Virág was awarded research funding in the Experienced Investigator programme. Adrienn Sípos will investigate "Potential therapeutic transition metal complexes" in her research, which received a grant of 44 MFt over four years. In previous work, they have identified ruthenium, osmium and iridium semi-sandwich complexes that show significant selectivity for a wide range of tumour cells and retain their cytostatic activity in platinum-resistant cells. Detailed mechanisms of action of these potential tumour therapeutic agents are planned to be elucidated. László Virág's new research program plans to develop effective cell therapies using genetic modifications of macrophage cells, primarily for the treatment of breast cancer. The NRDIH has awarded a grant worth of 48 MFt for this project.
