On 28th May, 2022 the paper „Tímea Hajdu, Krisztina Szabó, Ágnes Jakab, István Pócsi, Viktor Dombrádi, Peter Nagy: Biophysical experiments reveal a protective role of protein phosphatase Z1 against oxidative damage of the cell membrane in Candida albicans. Free Radical Biology & Medicine, S0891-5849(21)00741-3. (2021), IF: 7.376” based on a collaborative study of three research groups of the University received the Publication Award of the University of Debrecen. This Award honors the best publication that appeared in the last year from the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Medicine. In this article we describe that the fungus specific protein phosphatase Z1 enzyme (Ppz1) protects the plasma membrane of the opportunistic pathogen, Candida albicans from the damage elicited by an oxidizing agent (tBOOH), and suggest that it may become a suitable target for a perspective antifungal treatment. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0891584921007413
